Frequently Asked Questions for Admission of International Students

Q1. How do I apply for admission to IISER Bhopal as an international student?

International students can apply for Undergraduate and Ph.D programme through the Study in India (SII) channel. International students must first register on the SII portal: https://www.studyinindia.gov.in/admission/registrations.

  • Visit the SII website and register at   https://www.studyinindia.gov.in/admission/registrations.
  • Fill in the required details and wait for email confirmation.
  • Once registered, proceed with the application process on the SII portal.
  • Select your preferred course and submit your application directly to the University/Institution.
Q2. What Undergraduate Programmes are available at IISER Bhopal for international students?

The following programmes are available:

  • BS–MS (Dual Degree) in Natural Sciences
  • B.Tech. in Engineering Sciences
  • BS (Economic Sciences / Engineering Sciences)

Q3. When does the Study in India portal typically open for applications for the upcoming admission cycle?

The admission cycle for BS–MS, BS and B.Tech programme usually opens in April through the SII portal.

For Ph.D. programme, applications are typically invited twice a year, in August and December.

Q4. What are the eligibility criteria for admission to IISER Bhopal as an international student?

For BS–MS / BS / B.Tech programme:

  • Minimum 60% marks or equivalent grade in 10+2 (or equivalent) with at least three subjects among Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics.
  • SAT scorecard with a minimum score of 1000.
  • Age: Preferably not more than 21 years on the date of application.
  • Valid overseas passport.

For Ph.D. programme:

(Departments: Biological Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science, Mathematics, Physics, Data Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, Economic Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences)

  • Minimum 60% marks or equivalent grades in 10+2 or equivalent.
  • Four-year Bachelor’s degree / five-year integrated degree / Master’s degree in the relevant subject with a minimum 60% marks or CGPA/CPI of 7.0 on a 10-point scale at both Bachelor’s and Master’s levels.
  • GRE (General Test) score of at least 280, or a valid GATE score, or any relevant Indian national examination.
  • English proficiency: Minimum 60 in TOEFL / 6 in IELTS or equivalent certification.
  • Selection through online interviews.
  • Age: Preferably not more than 28 years on the date of application.
Q5. How are applications evaluated (SAT score, academic transcripts, interview, etc.)?

Applications that meet the eligibility criteria are evaluated based on online interviews, which are conducted as part of the selection process.

Q7. Are accommodation facilities available on campus for international students?

Yes, hostel facilities are available for international students on campus.

Q8. Is an interview required, and if so, what are the approximate timelines and mode (online/offline) for international applicants?

Yes. After receiving all the required documents, applicants who meet the eligibility criteria will be provisionally shortlisted for the next stage of the selection process, which includes an online interview conducted at the Institute level.

The interview dates will be communicated to shortlisted candidates in due course.

Q9. Can Indian Passport holders apply for admission to IISER Bhopal as an international student through SII?

As per the current admission policies, IISER Bhopal does not offer admission to Indian Passport holders candidates through the Study in India (SII) channel.

Q10. How do I reach the campus from the Bhopal airport or railway station?

The distance from Bhopal Airport to IISER Bhopal campus is approximately 11 km, Sant Hirdaram Nagar Railway Station to IISER Bhopal campus is approximately 8.5 Km, Bhopal Railway Station to IISER Bhopal campus is approximately 22 km, and Rani Kamlapati Railway Station (RKMP) to IISER Bhopal campus is approximately 28 km, it can be reached by taxi/ Cab.

Q11. What facilities and support are available for international students?

International students have access to all campus facilities, including hostels, dining halls, library, laboratories, and counselling services.

The International Relations (IR) Office and student mentors provide continuous support for academic, personal, and cultural matters.
